General Medical Council latest arrival to Holyrood

Jones Lang LaSalle, acting on behalf of the General Medical Council, has agreed a deal to lease space on the top floor of The Tun building in Holyrood Road.

The 241 square metre (2,595 square feet) space with private external balcony has been let by Whiteburn Holyrood Ltd to the GMC on a 10-year lease for £64,000 per year.
The top floor offers stunning views of Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags and is just yards from The Scotsman Publications headquarters and The Scottish Parliament.
The Tun, which was designed by Edinburgh architect Allan Murray, was judged the best commercial workplace in the UK by the British Council for Offices in 2003.

Current occupants in The Tun include BBC Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, the European Parliament, The Tun Bar & Kitchen, the Commission for Racial Equality and the British Council Scotland
Whiteburn is in early discussions with a potential occupier for the building's third floor suite, which if concluded will see The Tun fully occupied.

Paula Fern, associate director at Jones Lang LaSalle's Edinburgh Office, said: "Following the recent letting of space to Citigroup at the neighbouring Holyrood Park House, this deal represents another vote of confidence in the Holyrood area. The General Medical Council was impressed with the modern contemporary feel of this award-winning building, the current tenants and the excellent amenities available in Holyrood."
Steve Jones - head of facilities at the GMC, said: "As a modern, patient focused regulator the GMC requires high quality, fully accessible accommodation. The Tun offers an excellent working environment and we are delighted with the move."

John Shepherd, chief executive of Whiteburn, said: "We are delighted to welcome the General Medical Council to The Tun, where I'm sure they will build synergies with a number of other occupiers in the building. This deal will further boost the profile of Edinburgh's newest commercial district."
Whiteburn is also the owner and developer of the fire-hit site in the Cowgate, which is to be transformed into a £40 million mixed-use development called SoCo.
McGregor Chartered Surveyors and CBRE acted for Whiteburn while Jones Lang LaSalle represented the General Medical Council.

Notes to editor
Whiteburn is a family-owned development company.  It kick-started the Edinburgh pavement café revolution in the 1990’s with Café Rouge; created Scotland’s first genuine lofts at Leith Lofts and built the best commercial office building in Scotland and the UK (The Tun – winner of two BCO Awards in 2003).
